Texas Air Missions
Our History
There’s nothing more important than the Gospel. Our foundation is Romans 6:23; “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (ESV) A calling placed on the heart of an individual with a passion for aviation and following Christ, grew into a mission seeking to use aviation to share the free gift of God with others.
In 2016, Missionary Aircraft Repair Services (MARS) was established at a small T-hangar in Florida. The purpose of MARS was to donate weekly professional airplane maintenance to help missionary aviation organizations maintain their fleets. The need for mechanics in the missionary aviation world quickly revealed itself, and the task became overwhelming for the one volunteer at MARS.
One solution was to train the organization’s missionary pilots to perform routine maintenance on their own airplanes. MARS evolved into MAPS (Missionary Airframe and Powerplant School), training both missionary aviators and interns pursuing their FAA aircraft mechanic certificates.
In 2019, MAPS became a hybrid program, combining classroom curriculum with real-world apprenticeship. The founder of MAPS also taught Aviation Maintenance Technology at a Florida state college and helped establish the school’s FAA certified FAR 147 A&P training program. He incorporated this experience into MAPS, introducing a formal curriculum and classroom structure.
MAPS partnered with another missionary aviation organization in the area that needed aircraft maintenance services for their youth pilot training program. MAPS would train the same young aviators in the skills required to become licensed A&P mechanics, while maintaining the aircraft for the organization. MAPS grew into a full-time mission.
In 2021, MAPS became an official 501(c)(3) non-profit, having previously operated under the umbrella of the other organization’s non-profit status. Due to a lack of funding, MAPS became idle while the founder traveled the USA chasing work in the pandemic era.
In 2024, that work (and some divine appointments) brought our founder to Texas. While his stay in Texas was supposed to be a short-term assignment, God had other plans. By the next year, God provided a 4,000 square foot hangar, our founder restarted MAPS in the new location, and Texas Air Missions was born.
In September 2025, Texas Air Safety became a Texas 501(c)(3) public charity, with MAPS and Texas Air Missions registered as official assumed names of the organization. In December, Texas Air Missions received its first aircraft, a donated Piper PA-15 Vagabond.
Texas Air Missions recognizes two great needs—the need for the Gospel and the need for access. Many communities across Texas and surrounding regions face geographic barriers that limit access to medical care, resources, disaster recovery, and consistent spiritual support. Aviation offers a solution.
By combining a heart for serving Christ with the unique capabilities of aircraft, the foundation was laid for a ministry that could overcome distance and deliver both hope and help.
